Instructions
Each week the student is will complete the quiz scheduled. The instructor will notify each student when the quiz is available to begin and when the due date to complete each quiz is. Every quiz will cover the material for that particular week from the text and the additional reading material. Students have the opportunity to go to the Pearson Publishers website and login to the MySocLab study materials. This is an excellent site to study and learn more of the discipline of the Sociology and to study for quizzes. No questions from MySocLab will be on the weekly quizzes. MySocLab is an optional study tool for students and is not required as part of the class.
The weekly quizzes will be made up of questions ranging from multiple choice, True and False, short answer and essay questions. You may use your texts and extra reading materials for each quiz, as each quiz will be open book. All questions on the quiz will be worth 0-100; this includes multiple choice questions, True and False questions, short answer questions, and one essay question (with an answer of two to three paragraphs).
An optional extra credit question will be part of each weekly quiz. This will be made up entirely by the each student and will consist of a question they have developed in relationship with each weeks study and topics. So, if a student wishes to participate, they will write out their question on the quiz, answer that question to the best of their ability and then the instructor will have the option of using that question to supplement the forum interaction for the next week. These extra credit questions are worth an extra 5% per question and your own answer to that question posted under the question.
You will have two attempts at each quiz with the highest score of those two attempts being your final grade for the quiz.
When you complete the quiz, only the first 16 questions are automatically graded, the rest I grade by hand. When you complete the quiz, if you get all the first 16 correct, your score will be 80. So, if you get all the questions I grade by hand correct (four more questions with one extra credit question for a total of 21) in addition to the first 16, then your score (with the extra credit question) will be 110; 110 because I need to grade each essay question on the quizzes worth 10 points instead of 5 - it's a quirk of Canvas.
I assume you're understanding how the quiz grading scheme works so this red section will not appear again in the Quiz Instructions.
