Can I do it?

Yes! You may have been contacted by Accessibility Resources about a student who needs extended time on timed quizzes as part of an approved accommodation. You can add extra time to a timed quiz for specific students in a few easy steps!

This tip aligns with sections 3 and 4 of the BTC Course Design Tool. Specifically, the feature helps to provide “accessible material and technology with equivalent alternatives” and “allow flexibility as appropriate”.

How can I do it?

Classic Quizzes

Open the quiz and click the Moderate This Quiz link.
Locate the student's name in the list and click change user extensions (pencil icon).
Enter the number of additional minutes needed for the accommodation in the Extra Time on Every Attempt field.
Click the Save button.

New Quizzes

Open the quiz, then scroll down and click the Build button.
Select the Moderate tab.
- To moderate the current quiz, locate the student’s name and click the Moderate button (far right of name).
  - To add extra time: Select Give additional time in the Time adjustments drop-down menu and add the additional time to the hours and/or Minutes fields.
- To adjust time for all course quizzes, locate the student’s name and click the pencil icon under Accommodations.
  - To add extra time: Select Give additional time in the Time adjustments drop-down menu and add the additional time to the hours and/or Minutes fields.
  - To remove time limits: Select Remove time limit (unlimited) from the Time adjustments menu.
  - To add a time limit multiplier: Select Time limit multiplier from the Time adjustments menu and enter the multiplier in the Time limit multiplier field (ex. Enter 1.5 to give the student 50% more time).
Click the Save button.
